A boutique brand of Marriott Hotels, Autograph Collection is a quirky family of niche properties that includes Barcelona's Cotton House. Rich in history and walking distance to Paseo de Gracia, this ultra-stylish property shouldn't be judged too quickly because of its Marriott-owned management. Cotton House occupies the neoclassical headquarters of the former Cotton Textile Foundation. Interiors were commissioned to interior designer Lazaro Rosa-Violan, who created a sophisticated design property that retains historic elements of the property like its marble staircase, parquet floors and coffer ceilings while bringing in more modern decor and amenities. Today, a light-filled lobby meanders around imposing stone work that leads to grand Bataur eatery with its all-day Mediterranean cuisine and cocktail bar that's open past midnight. Outside, however, is one of the best hotel terraces in town with late afternoon social that's even better than the rooftop pool scene.
The Room
White it’s not in our favorite neighborhood in Barcelona; The Cotton House leaves a lasting impression with its 19th Century elegance and casual style evident in all guest rooms. The decor is inspired by cotton and the monochromatic combinations of white, black and sepia indicative to the plant. Sadly, room space in entry categories is at a premium with unfortunate upholstery choices that are forgiven by the period details, Ortigia brand toiletries and dramatic outdoor spaces in select rooms and larger suites.
